How to get rid of ads?

Notes:

    How to get rid of ads on Android and Windows devices.Although there is a way to get rid of ads in Your web-browser (e.g. the AdBlock extension for web-browsers either on Windows or Android OS), it doesn't work anywhere but within the web-browser itself. Interestingly there is a method which could cover any program on Your device, which especially comes in handy using Android apps (because many of them display ads).

    Here I'll describe how to apply it both on Android and Windows (currently I use Windows 7 32-bit).

    First of all, whether You use Android or Windows, this part is common:

    0. Download the "hosts" file from this site »

    1. Remove its ".txt" extension - the file should be named "hosts", NOT "hosts.txt".

    *****

    I. For ad-blocking on Windows:

    • for Windows 9x and ME place the "hosts" file at "C:\Windows\hosts",
    • for NT, Win2K and XP use "C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" or "C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts",
    • for Windows 7 and Vista use "C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" or "%systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts",
    • for Windows 8 and Windows 10 use "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts";

    After that, restart Your computer and enjoy browsing websites without ads :) .

    II. For ad-blocking on Android:

    • place the file at "/system/etc/hosts";

    Unfortunately on Android You will need root access and an appropriate app to place the "hosts" file in the proper location (I used Root Browser).

    After that, restart Your device and enjoy browsing web-browsing and apps without ads :) .
